A background in research complements an evidence-based approach to financial advice.

Eric A. Hollen, CFP®, Associate Advisor

Good financial planning and investing decisions are complex, but not nearly as difficult as the financial industry would lead you to believe. That is what Eric Hollen came to understand early in his financial education.

While finishing college, with the world in the throes of the 2008 financial crisis, Eric saw his course material played out in real time all around him. When the financial crisis led to more questions than answers, Eric sought answers on his own. This journey formed a strong foundation for a career assisting others in understanding their finances and making better financial decisions. After graduating from the University of Nevada, Reno, with a B.S. in Business Administration, and majors in both finance and economics, Eric was faced with a choice – find an entry-level job, or define his own path.

Eric chose to open his own business – Clear Version Reports and Consulting. "Clear Version" was founded to help other wealth advisors communicate clearly with their own clients. He created reports that summarized a client’s complete financial situation using information condensed from stacks of esoteric brokerage account statements. His reports provided a straightforward view, a Clear Version, of a client’s financial circumstances. The reports highlighted total investment expenses, risk exposure, and alignment with prudent academic investment principles. It wasn’t long before they were in demand. He consulted for multiple, independent, Fee-Only advisory firms throughout the country. Eric developed a reputation for clear, honest communication early in his career.

In 2011, Eric joined his father at Hollen Financial Planning, Ltd. – renamed Open Window Financial Solutions, Ltd. in late 2013. At Open Window, he is able to apply the academic principles he learned in school and the real life lessons he experienced as a consultant for other advisory firms. Armed with an analytical mind and an empathetic personality, Eric finds it very rewarding to help clients understand the decisions they face and implement financial strategies that serve their best interest.

In 2015, Eric earned the right to use the highly regarded CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) professional designation. He is an Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®), an Investment Advisor Representative and holds a Series 65 license. He is also a member and former officer of the University of Nevada, Reno, College of Business Alumni Association.
